Reflecting on casual meanness this season of "thanks," I'm reminded of Marcus Aurelius' #Meditations. His thoughts on handling ignorance and wrongdoing, well, I want to resonate with it.
Cooperation over division, pity over anger.
I'm trying my best, Marcus, but I think your thinking was more evolved than mine. So, maybe you can find some pity for me, too.

I've always felt Aurelius' stoicism was at least partly owing to the fact that he could, with the twitch of a finger, have most any nuisance he took issue with done away with.
My fingers twitch constantly and nary a nuisance has been burlap sacked.
@andrew An apt observation!
Couple it with something along the lines of "we teach what we most need to learn," and yeah, he was probably just a guy trying to work through his own stuff, as we all are.
Absolutely, and FWIW I meant no disrespect to you or Marcus. My recollection is that he was never intending to write for publication, so you are almost certainly spot on.
